EMRT (Extended Minerals Reporting Template)

The Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) is a free, standardized reporting template developed by RMI for collecting due diligence information on cobalt, copper, graphite (natural), lithium, mica, and nickel — minerals not covered by the CMRT but increasingly subject to regulatory and customer-driven due diligence requirements. EMRT version 2.11 was released April 17, 2026. Key changes include IPC-1755-compatible enhancements, updated ISO country abbreviations, correction of a Declaration tab date input issue, and refreshed Smelter Reference and Standard Smelter Lists. The next EMRT version is anticipated in Spring 2027.

Companies in the EV, electronics, and energy storage sectors increasingly receive EMRT requests from customers alongside CMRT requests. The EMRT structure mirrors the CMRT and is aligned with IPC-1755, enabling integration with compliance platforms. RMI recommends using EMRT for cobalt and mica rather than the legacy Cobalt Reporting Template (CRT) or Mica Reporting Template (MRT), both of which were phased out in March 2022. Copper, graphite, lithium, and nickel were added to EMRT scope in version 2.0 (April 2025).

A lithium-ion battery manufacturer sends EMRT 2.11 requests to its cell suppliers, collecting data on cobalt and lithium processors. The EMRT data is used to assess whether processors source from CAHRAs and to report to automotive OEM customers who require EMRT declarations under their responsible sourcing programs.
