Import (under TSCA PBT)

Under TSCA, import equals manufacturing and distribution in commerce. Importing articles, products, or substances containing restricted PBT chemicals triggers the same prohibitions as domestic production. The 2024 revision explicitly aligned import prohibitions with domestic use prohibitions for PIP (3:1) and DecaBDE.

Critical for global supply chains. Importers must verify PBT content through supplier declarations or testing. The 2024 revision tightened import prohibitions for PIP (3:1) where domestic use was already banned.

A U.S. parts distributor importing brake components with PIP (3:1) from Asia must verify that import is still permitted under applicable exclusions.
