Five PBT Chemicals (Overview)
Definition
TSCA Section 6(h) restricts five PBT chemicals: (1) DecaBDE (CAS 1163-19-5); (2) PIP (3:1) (CAS 68937-41-7); (3) 2,4,6-TTBP (CAS 732-26-3); (4) HCBD (CAS 87-68-3); (5) PCTP (CAS 133-49-3). Each has distinct prohibitions, exclusions, and compliance dates in 40 CFR Part 751, Subpart E.

Practical Explanation (Compliance Context)
Each chemical has unique requirements: PCTP/HCBD have straightforward bans; 2,4,6-TTBP has concentration/container restrictions; DecaBDE/PIP (3:1) have complex phased prohibitions, exclusions, and workplace safety. The 2024 revision only modified DecaBDE and PIP (3:1).
